Colin Kennedy’s short film “WOOD” was nominated for “Best US Skate Film” at the festival. Six Skateboarders are choreographed as they skate through a stark world composed of white void and thousands pieces of chopped firewood.

Skateistan is Afghanistan’s first skateboarding school that teaches Afghan children how to skate, while helping them form bonds with new friends during a time of war. Skateistan: To Live and Skate Kabul is a documentary that tells a hopeful story about the Afghan youth and recently won at LA Skate Film Festival receiving awards for Best Documentary & Best Photography. The documentary showed skateboarding in a different way and I was excited to sit down and speak with it’s director, Orlando Von Einsiedel.
